MSI's Bravo 15 is another aggressively priced AMD Ryzen gaming laptop

A number of laptops powered by AMD's mobile Ryzen 4000 series are hitting the market, the latest of which is MSI's Bravo 15. Like others that have come before it, the Bravo 15 is priced aggressively in the gaming notebook realm.

It is available in several configurations, the least expensive of which is $929. This model combines a Ryzen 5 4600H CPU and a Radeon RX 5500M GPU. It also has 8GB of DDR4 RAM and a 512GB NVMe SSD. It's a modest setup at a relatively modest price.

All SKUs feature 15.6" 1080p displays with either 120Hz or 144Hz refresh rates, depending on the model. Taking full advantage of either refresh rate is a difficult requirement for the 5500M (performance generally falls between GeForce 1650 and 1660 Ti Max-Q), but it may be possible for many lightweight games.

A bit more intriguing is the $999 configuration, which specs up the CPU to a Ryzen 7 4800H and 16GB of RAM. A version with a 144 Hz refresh rate is $1049.

Connectivity options for all models include Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.1 for wireless, three USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A ports, two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C ports, gigabit LAN, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

This is another relatively affordable lineup. This situation reminds us a bit of when Gateway (remember them?) introduced the P-7811 FX a few years ago. This product punched above its class in terms of price, and we see the same thing with the latest Ryzen laptop (see Asus TUF A15 review).

The only question is whether AMD can keep up with demand. System builder XMG recently lamented that "there will be a severe CPU shortage from AMD in Q3 2020," which speaks to the demand for these systems.

As for the Bravo 15, some models are currently in stock, while others are available for pre-order.
