Dr Disrespect was one of Twitch's most popular streamers, but was permanently banned from the platform at the end of June. Guy Beahm, who played the character of Dr. Disrespect, does not know the reason for the ban and Twitch will not tell him He claims. In an interview with PC Gamer last month, he said that Twitch's actions were "mind-boggling" to him.
Today, in a returning stream on YouTube, Beahm again, this time in character for Dr Disrespect, stated that he does not know the reason for Twitch's ban. Ironically, he seemed more candid when speaking in character:
"As far as I know, I didn't do anything to get banned. 'There was no contact before. No contact. Nothing. Boom. Boom."
As for those who say he is lying, they are "phonies."
"There are people in the community who want answers, and that creates urgency and speculation. It's a cockroach approach."
"It's a cockroach approach."[13 Lastly, we have to be intelligent about this ....... In other words, there is a lot of money involved, so let the legal experts do what they need to do. That's it. That's it. Where's my conscience? I feel good.
"So this is your status report, huh? But you know who I was talking to? I was talking to a very small percentage of people who are in crisis and want to know right now. What they want, and that is for something bad to happen. But that is a small percentage. The larger percentage, the true supporters, the followers of the doc, they know what I am about.
Despite Dr. Disrespect's apparent ignorance of the cause of the ban, some, including esports insider Rod "Slasher" Breslau, claim to know the exact reason.
The ban came at the same time that Twitch was cleaning up streamers accused of sex crimes and abuse, but there is no evidence that Beahm's ban was related to similar allegations. Nevertheless, the timing and Breslau's claim that it involved sensitive material contributed to speculation about the ban.
Due to Beahm's history of controversy, beginning with his 2017 confession of cheating on his wife and taking the spotlight as a Dr. Disrespect character, curiosity about the ban will not disappear until, and if, the facts come to light.
It is also possible that Twitch's decision was influenced by already known actions. After last year's E3, Beahm apologized for his overzealous behavior of live-streaming in a public restroom. He defended his use of dickish language to ridicule Asian languages and shared on the stream a conspiracy theory about COVID-19 that was denied.
For now, the reason for Twitch's ban remains a mystery, but we do know that it is a permanent ban that will end the multi-year exclusive contract Beahm signed with Twitch in March. Going forward, Dr. Disrespect will be streaming on YouTube, Facebook, and his website, ChampionsClub.gg. He does not currently have an exclusive agreement with any platform.
