Sega plans to port old and new games to PC after the success of "Persona 4 Golden".

The success of "Persona 4 Golden" on Steam has convinced Sega that future investments in the PC platform are worthwhile. We will continue to aggressively pursue ports of previously released titles to Steam and new platforms," said a Sega executive in response to an investor question about the company's plans to sell newly released games on Steam.

This internal push will likely lead to more older Sega games, and possibly Atlus RPGs, being ported to Steam. It will also accelerate the number of series like "Yakuza" being ported to Steam soon after being released elsewhere: like "Like a Dragon.

As Persona Central discovered, Sega bosses said this in a Q&A session following their Q1 FY2021 earnings report: sales of the PC version of "Persona 4 Golden" were a strong component of Sega's sales for the quarter, especially in the West; as of a month ago, "Persona 4 Golden" had sold over 500,000 units on PC.

Below is the full response from Haruki Satomi, President and COO of Sega Sammy. He stated, "We remastered "Persona 4 the Golden," which was previously available on PlayStation Vita, and sold it on Steam this quarter. Due to the popularity of the game and its low price, we were able to achieve sales that far exceeded our expectations. We will continue to actively promote the porting of previously released titles to Steam and new platforms. We are also negotiating with platform holders for future new games, and are considering ways to sell each title on favorable terms. Some of these measures include preparing a PC version from the beginning, with a view to multi-platform releases."

Sega's shift to PC sales has been quite noticeable in recent years, with acquisitions of Creative Assembly, Amplitude Studios, Relic Entertainment, and most recently Two Point Studios, a PC strategy game Recently, the company acquired Creative Assembly, Amplitude Studios, Relic Entertainment, and recently Two Point Studios, and has emerged as a leading publisher of PC strategy games. Shortly after the release of Persona 4 Golden, we noted that it was a very well done port. If future ports of Sega's new and old games reach this level of quality, they will be quite welcome.
