While the PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn ran without problems for Senior Hardware Editor Jacob Ridley, reviewer Dave Meikleham experienced stuttering and frame rate stability. As Jacob noted, "Once the proverbial gates are opened, technical problems are bound to be reported on a wider scale."
And now it has: user reviews for "Horizon Zero Dawn" on Steam are currently "mixed," with crashing complaints being the most common, and others such as "I love the game, but the pc port is terrible."
Developers.
Developer Guerrilla released a statement regarding these complaints, saying, "We are investigating your reports as a top priority. They added, "We thank everyone who has taken the time to report issues via Steam, Reddit, or our website. If you are still encountering crashes or bugs, please continue to use those spaces. Your reports are very helpful to our team and already have been."
In his feedback, Jacob brought up the PC release of Red Dead Redemption 2, which now seems like an appropriate comparison. One PC ran fine, but another PC with the same components fell apart just by looking at the game. My only remedy, after a day of testing at the time, was to build a completely new PC, install a brand new SSD, and start over. Hopefully I won't have to do anything too drastic this time."
