Nvidia teases August 31 announcement. Surely it will be Ampere?

Nvidia has announced the ultimate countdown on Twitter, suggesting that in 21 days something will happen that will be the culmination of something that has been going on for 21 years. Either that or we will have to wait 21 days and 21 years to find out the answer, but I am guessing this has something to do with Nvidia Ampere, the next generation of graphics cards. [All we know is what has been released on the official Nvidia GeForce Twitter account. There is a teaser that is only 8 seconds long, suggesting a super-sized, cosmic thermal death-like explosion, with the caption "#UltimateCountdown 21 days. 21 years.

21 days means August 31, which is a bit off from Ampere's recent speculation, which suggested a September announcement. Still, it was suggested that Nvidia would follow a similar announcement sequence as the RTX 20 series, i.e., an August announcement (around the time of Gamescom in Cologne, which ends on the 30th of this month) and a September release for the first wave of high-end cards. [It was 21 years ago that Nvidia released its first "GPU," the GeForce 256. To commemorate this, it appears that they will be releasing an entirely new lineup of graphics cards.

This article is in development and will be updated as new information becomes available.
