I've been playing Risk of Rain 2 a lot lately, having graduated from Early Access today. The game is great, but easily drowned out by the action. The game is great, but easily drowned out by the action, including the new songs added in the 1.0 update, which are now on Spotify.
Nothing beats the theme of "Risk of Rain 2," which goes from a quiet, ominous spacey atmosphere to over five minutes of blazing electric guitars. Damn, this song is cool. Take a listen:
"Risk of Rain 2" composer Chris Christodoulou definitely rocks a few times on this soundtrack. A more modern analogy would be the theme from Stranger Things. These are powerful beats.
Of the many things added in the 1.0 update, my favorite is probably ". .con lentitud poderosa", which starts with a tragic piano, then layers on a mournful acoustic guitar, and finally goes heavily electric, adding a huge explosion to the final level of the game. I don't intend to embed this song. It's just too great to experience in the game.
The electric guitar on the "Risk of Rain 2" soundtrack makes me want to sit at my desk and play air guitar, but its energy is closer to "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" than "Breaking Benjamin". And it is not omnipresent. Many of the songs are more atmospheric, backing up the isolated planetary expedition you are going on. For me, these songs are the perfect work music, with enough drive and energy to keep my brain excited.
"Risk of Rain 2" will probably get an update after its release, given the huge success so far. Hopefully that update will include some new songs. The album will also be released on vinyl through Black Screen Records. Orders are being taken now, but will not ship until October or later. Chris Christodoulou is selling the entire soundtrack on Bandcamp for $6.
