Quake 2 is currently free on Bethesda's launcher; Quake 3 will be released next week.

Following a recent giveaway of the original Quake, Quake 2 is now available for free on Bethesda's Launcher. Sign up within 72 hours of 12pm today (4pm GMT) and you can get a donation for charity.

As Andy previously mentioned, Bethesda announced that if $10,000 was raised during the QuakeCon charity drive, they would give away Quake 2 for free. And now that more than $30,000 ($30,686.48 to be exact) has been raised, Quake 2 will be available for the next three days. That's not all: Quake 3 will also be free next week, also for 72 hours, starting August 17 at 12pm EST/4pm GMT.

To claim the game, you must be logged into the Bethesda launcher during the three-day period, at which point Quake 2 (and later Quake 3) will be automatically added to your library.

If this makes you nostalgic for Quake 2, you might also want to take this opportunity to read The Making of Quake 2 report in which Rory Milne, along with level designer Tim Willits, discusses how this shooter came to be.
