THQ Nordic's parent company acquires Metro and Insurgency studios.

Embracer Group, parent company of THQ Nordic, has acquired a number of new studios, including 4A Games, developer of the "Metro" series, and New World Interactive, developer of "Insurgency" and "Day of Infamy. Both studios are owned by Saber Interactive. Both studios are now under Saber Interactive, which was acquired by Embracer in February.

Along with this news, several previews of upcoming games from both studios were announced, including Metro developer 4A, which is working on a "brand new AAA IP that leverages 10 years of experience developing the Metro series," and Saber Interactive is teaming up with them for a new game that will feature multiplayer. Despite the change in ownership, 4A Games and Metro publisher Deep Silver will "continue to explore the Metro franchise with [Metro creator] Dmitry Glukhovsky," but now Embracer/ Saber Interactive is also part of the process.

Dean Sharpe, CEO of 4A Games, had this to say: "Embracer Group and Saber Interactive are the perfect partners for 4A Games and our next phase of growth. Embracer Group and Saber Interactive are the perfect partners for 4A Games and our next phase of growth. We look forward to building a new, even more ambitious AAA IP in the near future."

If I'm reading this correctly, it looks like a multiplayer Metro is a possibility, but perhaps more exciting is the story of this new IP; I'm curious to see what a non-Metro game by 4A will look like.

Meanwhile, New World Interactive is "currently working on an unannounced new IP" and has partnered with Saber for a console port of Insurgency: Sandstorm. Under Embracer, the company plans to expand its Calgary studio and open a new studio in Montreal.

Embracer Group is also Pow Wow Entertainment, developer of Misbits; film and television rights company Sola Media; DECA Games; Palindrome Interactive; and Rare Earth Games, Vermila Studios.
