Remnant: From the Ashes and The Alto Collection are free on the Epic Games Store.

TGI Thursday: Terrible name for a store, but good news for video game fans. That's because Thursdays are the days when Epic Games distributes new freebies at the store. This week's giveaway is the third-person survival shooter Remnant: The Alto Collection, which includes the endless runners Alto's Adventure and Alto's Odyssey.

Remnant: Remnant: From the Ashes is set in a world gone really wrong: ancient evil beings from another dimension have struck reality and are trying to destroy humanity. The last survivors of humanity (get it? As I noted in last year's 77% review, it's not the most original thing ever, but it comes together as a "refreshing alternative" to games like The Division.

"Alto Collection" is simpler: snowboard or sandboard through a variety of landscapes, avoiding obstacles, pulling stunts, and discovering secrets as you go. Both games are gorgeous, however, and have been well received by critics, with overall scores of 92 and 88 on Metacritic.

Both games will be available for free until August 20, when Enter the Gungeon and God's Trigger will be available. For a shorter period of time, Total War: Troy is also available for free on the Epic Games store starting today and will be available for 24 hours only until August 14 at 9:00 a.m. ET.
