Call of Duty" ARG Continues with Warning of More Cold War, But Not Yet Revealed

Earlier this week, we reported that the ARG for "Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War" teased the release of the next installment in the series, leaked long ago as "Black Ops - Cold War," and that it would be happening today. However, it appears that what we are really getting today, on this big day, is a further ARG, sorry to say.

The first change began shortly before 12 p.m. EST when a sticky note was posted on the pawntakespawn.tv TV saying "tangledweb". As a result, the image of the typewritten message changed, with rambling stories about tactics, codes, and plot lines that "cannot be unraveled overnight [and] will take decades."

"Some battles are won quickly, others take days. You have found the first of many pieces. Enjoy the journey. It's part of the game.

It sounded alarming, as if more of this nonsense was afoot. And sure enough, at noon, no, of course, it was actually around 12:20, since the site crashed first:

Clicking on the videotape, several clips from the 1960s play, mostly of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The central events of the Cold War are also mentioned, including President Kennedy's inauguration, the Laotian Civil War, the building of the Berlin Wall, the space race, and the civil rights struggle.

A few minutes after the video began, the number "37" flashed on the screen for a moment, and a short time later a strange message appeared on the VCR's display, "wz-h6-49285 163."

Redditors quickly discovered that it was a location in "Call of Duty: Warzone" They figured out that it corresponded to a location in "Call of Duty: Warzone" and soon discovered that a secret room had been added to the game. Efforts to figure out the next steps are ongoing.

What I also find very interesting is that while almost the entire video focuses on the Cuban crisis and events in the U.S., it suddenly changes direction at the very end and mentions the Chinese invasion of India in 1962 and the outbreak of the Sino-Indian War.

And that is where we stand at this point.

I don't mean to speak for everyone, but I personally find this kind of thing tiresome, as evidenced by the effort expended to discover the pawntakespawn.tv website, and I'm sure there is an audience for this kind of thing, but at some point, when one's need to just present the damn thing. Remember the frustratingly long Overwatch ARG a few years ago? Yeah, no one will want to do that again.

At some point, "Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War" (or whatever it will eventually be called) will be officially unveiled--maybe the next phase of the ARG, based on the progress in the sticky above--on August 19. I'm hoping for the best. I will keep you posted on what happens.
