'Horizon Zero Dawn' Patch Fixes 'Some' Problems, But Much Remains to Be Done

The PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn seems to be running into the same technical and performance issues that have plagued the game since its launch for so many people. As mentioned earlier this week, it ran fine for our Senior Hardware Editor Jacob, but when the reviewer tried it at 4K, he experienced stuttering and unstable frame rate issues even with a muscle CPU and 2080 Ti graphics card.

The developer, Guerrilla Games, said on Steam shortly after Horizon Zero Dawn's launch that it was aware of and investigating the issue, and a few days later on Twitter, it said, "Since the launch of Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition for PC, some We are still working hard to address the issue that has been affecting users," he followed up.

Friday's 1.01 patch "addresses several issues" with the game, including problems that could prevent saving. This is a fairly small update, and Guerrilla says it is still working on fixing other "high priority issues":

These include anisotropic filtering settings not working, stuttering at various points, animations locked at 30fps, hard This is in addition to the already known problems with the game, such as problems with the shader compilation process that can cause crashes if the drive space is too small.

In short, there remains much work to be done, but as the famous saying goes, a journey of a thousand miles is not made in a day.

Guerrilla asked that users who encounter problems with the game continue to report them here. They stated, "While we cannot reply to every report, we sincerely appreciate the ongoing support we receive from the community. We care deeply about providing an enjoyable experience for everyone who plays Horizon Zero Dawn, and we will continue to work on further enhancements based on your feedback."
