Resident Evil 7" sold 7.9 million units.

Back in February, we reported that Resident Evil 7 was coming in at #3 behind Resident Evil 5 and 6 and was making its way onto the best-seller list for Resident Evil. No, should we say Resident Evil? We don't know.

Now, according to the latest sales figures released by Capcom, the game has sold 7.9 million copies, pushing out the other basic versions of Resident Evil. (The numbers would be slightly different if Capcom counted "Resident Evil 5: Resident Evil Gold" and various ports together, but for some reason they are all listed separately.)

For reference, Capcom's number one was Monster Hunter World with 16.1 million units, which is like the combined sales of the two Resident Evil games. However, Resident Evil 7 is notorious for its late release, and it is interesting that it has tailed off so long compared to games that did much better in the first few months after release.

Meanwhile, the remake of Resident Evil 2 sold 7.2 million copies, making it the fourth best-selling game in the series in Capcom's rankings and the fifth best-selling game overall.

Here's what we know about the next installment in the series, "Resident Evil: The Village."
