Flying with Nvidia and AMD Drivers for Microsoft Flight Simulator

Finally, Microsoft Flight Simulator has taken off into the open airspace, and just in time, AMD and Nvidia have released GPU drivers optimized for the best performance while flying. And as is usually the case, each driver package also includes a few extra goodies.

First, AMD's Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.8.2 driver package includes performance tweaks for four games: Microsoft Flight Simulator, A Total War Saga: Troy, Mortal Shell, and Marvel's Avengers Open Beta.

Naturally, it is up to you to decide, but according to AMD, Radeon RX 5700 XT owners can expect performance gains of up to 12% in A Total War Saga: Troy simply by applying the latest drivers. This is based on AMD's own internal testing using a PC with an Intel Core i9 9900K CPU and 16GB of DDR4-3200 RAM. There are no other specific performance statements in the release notes.

AMD's latest drivers also include several bug fixes. They are:

AMD states that it continues to monitor and investigate lingering black screen issues. Users with Enhanced Sync enabled may encounter black screens in some games and certain settings (none of which are specified). A temporary workaround is to disable Enhanced Sync.

Download the 20.8.2 driver from the Radeon Software utility or install it manually from the AMD website.

Moving on to Nvidia, the centerpiece of its new 452.06 WHQL driver is to bring "Game Ready" status to Microsoft Flight Simulator and World of Warcraft: Shadowlands" (upcoming DXR visual pre-patch support), A Total War Saga: Troy, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2.

"Game Ready Drivers provide the best gaming experience for all major new releases. Before a new title is released, our driver team works right up to the last minute to ensure that every performance tweak and bug fix is included to ensure the best possible gameplay from day one," Nvidia explained. [This includes Acer's XB273U GX, VG272 LV, XV272 LV, CP5271U V, and X34 GS, Asus' PG329, IO Data's GC252UXm, and Lenovo's Y25-25.

This release also has some fixed issues:

The 452.06 WHQL driver can be downloaded from Nvidia's GeForce Experience software or installed manually from Nvidia's website at Nvidia's website.
