AVerMedia Launches Built-in Capture Card with Dual HDMI Terminals (Updated)

Update: Today, AVerMedia launched the Live Gamer Duo, a built-in PCIe capture card with two HDMI inputs, priced at $250. In a subsequent tweet, AVerMedia said that initial inventory sold out just two hours after launch. It is unclear how many units were made available, but it is impressive.

"The Live Gamer Duo (LGD) is a dual HDMI capture card capable of recording video from two separate feeds in uncompressed Full HD while simultaneously playing back pass-through in 4K HDR. It is not limited to 4K HDR as it can also pass-through high refresh rates of up to 240 Hz in Full HD.

AVerMedia is selling the Live Gamer Duo directly on their website and is working to get it listed on Amazon "ASAP".

This is a fascinating entry in the capture card arena, but how will it turn out? We will have a review posted by the end of this week, or by next week at the latest.

AVerMedia is preparing to announce another built-in PCIe capture card, and there are strong indications that it will have two inputs instead of one.

The company posted a short teaser clip on Twitter, giving a shady glimpse of the card being installed in a PC. However, AVerMedia was careful not to show a selection of ports, and we looked frame by frame and did not see a single port depicted.

Anyway, here's the teaser:

Someone asked, "Affordable double HDMI in?" asked, to which AVerMedia "liked" the tweet and said, "We'll find out soon enough!"

AVerMedia responded.

AVerMedia also responded to a tweet pointing out how the company "cheekily hid the port."

"Oh my, did you notice?" AVerMedia said. AVerMedia said.

The final proof can be found by following the link in the teaser to sign up for the new card update: "Time to level up. We've said before that two is better than one, right?"

.

Other than a capture card with two inputs, there is little else this could be; it is conceivable that one could be HDMI and the other a DisplayPort input, but most likely both will be HDMI inputs. I am betting on the former.

What is the point of having two inputs? There are several scenarios: one is to send the game stream to one port and the webcam stream to the other. Another is to utilize a dual-input capture card for multiple gaming systems, such as a PC and a game console. [AVerMedia may have strategically targeted this timing as Sony and Microsoft prepare to launch their next-generation game consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, respectively) For gamers who play and stream on both PCs and consoles would find it more convenient to connect to each input jack rather than switching between the two.

In any case, all we know for sure is that this is a PCIe card and that it is coming "soon."
