If you've ever played a roguelike, you've no doubt been stuck in a huge cavernous dungeon, underground, or in a dank cave full of creepy monsters out for your blood. Sound familiar? Developer Agro Club thought so, and set out to create Going Under, a roguelike set in and around an office.
As Jacqueline, an unpaid intern, you soon learn that your job isn't just making tea and checking printer cartridges. In her battle against "joblins" and other sinister creatures, Jacqueline grabs whatever she can get her hands on and uses it as a weapon. Whether it be a monitor, a cardboard box, or a traditional tool like a shortbow.
The company basement is the world of "cursed startups" and where those who don't make it go. Apparently, the game is also the story of how a mighty e-commerce company was able to take over the world, but it is so fantastical that it probably wasn't inspired by real events at all.
"Going Under" has held our attention for some time thanks to its colorful art style, reminiscent of current indie game hits like "Ooblets," and its speedy action. Needless to say, when Jacqueline takes on corporate evil on September 24, it's one to keep an eye on.
