Razer BlackWidow Elite mechanical keyboard on sale for $100

Every once in a while we see Razer's BlackWidow Elite gaming keyboard on sale, and now is the time to get it: it's down to $99.99 on Amazon. That's a savings of $70 off the list price and about $30 off the regular price.

BlackWidow Elite is essentially an upgraded version of regular BlackWidow, and BlackWidow itself is a widely superior deck. What's the difference between the two: the Elite model has dedicated media keys and multi-function dials, a magnetic wrist rest, and a choice of three keyswitches (green, orange, or yellow) (the regular BlackWidow has only green keyswitches).

Razer's green switches have a tactile and clicky feel similar to Cherry MX Blues. The orange switches are also tactile but quieter, similar to the Cherry MX Brown. And the yellow switches are linear (smooth keystrokes) and quieter, similar to the Cherry MX Speed switches. all three versions are available now.

My daily driver for the last few years has been an older BlackWidow model, the BlackWidow Ultimate 2014 Edition with green switches. It has held up well despite neglecting to clean it more often than necessary (cat hair and other debris getting into the crevices is a daily occurrence).

The keys on the BlackWidow Elite can be programmed with secondary functions and macros, a feature Razer calls Hypershift. It also has USB 2.0 and audio pass-through, onboard memory and cloud storage for storing settings, 10-key rollover, and customizable RGB ("Chroma") lighting.
