Google restores Gmail and apps for all users after outage (updated)

Update: Google has confirmed that Gmail and app services have been restored for all users.

Update from 12:10 p.m.:

"The Gmail issue should be resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank everyone for their patience and ongoing support. System reliability is Google's top priority. We are continuously improving our system to make it even better."

Original Gmail is currently facing issues with users not being able to send emails. Similarly, Google Meet, Google Drive, Admin Console, Google Sites, Google Keep, Google Voice, and Google Chat have also been affected by sudden and unexpected outages.

For now, the issue is listed only as a "service interruption" rather than a "service outage." Thus, it is still possible to check email that is already in your inbox, and the only thing you have to wait for until the service is up and running again is a hilarious office-wide joke newsletter in the morning.

Google has acknowledged the problem and has a team investigating, so it can be done now.

The latest entry on the App Status page from 09:38 is as follows:

"We are continuing to investigate this issue and will provide details on when this issue will be resolved by 10:38 AM on August 20. issues with sending Gmail, Meet recordings, Drive file creation issues, CSV user upload issues in the Admin Console, Google Chat message posting issues, adding new pages to the site, and Keep issues, Voicemail issues."

Google was aware of the outage at 6:29 a.m., and Downdetector shows that the problem first occurred around 5:07 a.m.

Reports from around the world also suggest that this is a global problem and that the severity of the outage varies from user to user.
