Razer's latest peripheral is for gaming, but it's really designed for work

Boasting eight programmable buttons and an ultra-sensitive 5G sensor with 16,000 DPI, a mouse is not necessary to navigate Excel or highlight text in a word editing program. Yet that is exactly what Razer is offering as part of its new "Productivity Suite" peripheral line.

The primary focus is on workplace ergonomics. To that end, Razer has collaborated with Humanscale, a designer and manufacturer of ergonomic products for the office, on productivity peripherals.

"The Razer Productivity Suite was created to enhance workflow and reduce fatigue by leveraging Razer's years of experience developing high-performance gaming peripherals and transferring that expertise to the workplace," Razer said.

The three new products that make up Razer's productivity lineup are the Pro Click mouse, Pro Type keyboard, and Pro Glide mouse pad.

Starting with the mouse, Razer says it designed the rodents specifically for tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome in order to "minimize the health risks of prolonged mouse use. The contoured design shifts the user's wrist to a neutral 30-degree angle. It also has extended palm, thumb, and pinky finger support to "minimize contact stress with the desk" and reduce fatigue after prolonged use.

The wireless mouse is rated for up to 400 hours of use with Bluetooth and up to 200 hours with the included 2.4GHz dongle, the latter being more suitable for gaming. The dongle can be paired with up to four devices.

The Pro Type keyboard is also wireless and has the same connectivity options. It is mechanical and uses Razer's Orange switches, which are tactile and quiet, similar to Cherry MX Brown mechanical keyboard switches.

Razer opted for a "sleek, minimalist" design, which means there are no dedicated media or game keys. The ergonomically designed keyboard also curiously has no wrist rest.

The fully programmable keys have a soft-touch coating for comfort; Razer also states that this coating is fingerprint resistant, which likely means it is resilient to fingertip oils. LED backlighting rounds out the set of features. Concluding remarks.

Finally, the ProGlide mouse pad is a mat for the mouse. Specifically, the surface is a textured microweave, with a thick, high-density foam backing. It is also cushioned and measures 360mm x 275mm x 3mm.

All three peripherals are available now, priced at $99.99 (€109.99) for the Pro Click, $139.99 (€149.99) for the Pro Type, and $9.99 (€11.99).
