The Ultimate Typing Championship 2020 came to a close after an intense last spurt. Anthony E. (a.k.a. Chuck) was crowned Ultimate Typing Champion on August 22nd, dethroning Sean W. (Arena Snow) with an impressive feat of dexterity. He now has a record-breaking peak typing speed of 233 WPM and an average typing speed of 208.5 through the finale.

The competition was the second ever organized by Das Keyboard, a German manufacturer of the world's first smart keyboard. Geeks from all over the world dutifully showed up to compete for the throne and a top prize of $5,000. The winner received a Das Keyboard 4 Pro Mechanical Keyboard provided for the contest, as well as a GMK keycap and a limited edition Cherry MX keycap. Finally, a special pen commemorating the 15th anniversary of the Das Keyboard was also presented.

During the qualifying rounds, participants could take as many typing tests as they wanted with their old keyboards to record the average WPM needed to qualify.

To demonstrate the skill of the champions, runner-up arenasnow took 770 attempts to secure an average of 203 WPM, and quarterfinalist izzy took 470 attempts to secure an average of 203.3 WPM. The reigning champion, Chuck, has kicked past accusations of cheating to the curb, averaging 200 WPM in just 63 races to qualify. This is quite a dexterity, especially considering his top accuracy of 99.7% in the last 12 races.

The sensational Chak won his third straight race in the finals and clinched victory before his rivals showed up. But Alina Snow was not to be outdone. She averaged 169.7 WPM, a top speed of 217.7 WPM, and a top accuracy of 100%. At one point in the finale, it looked like either of these two WPM wizards could have won, but in the closing stages, Chak was consistently one line ahead of his opponent on the whistle.

All in all, we saw a superb show from all the contestants. To learn more, visit the Ultimate Typing Championship website. You will find leaderboards and more information about registering if you are interested in challenging the champion next year.
