MSI Announces First PSU, Suggests Compatibility with Nvidia Ampere

It seems that everyone and their uncle is manufacturing power supply units these days, except MSI. Until now, that is, until MSI finally entered the PSU fray with the introduction of its new MPG GF series, consisting of three entry-level models.

"Notably, the MPG GF series can support up to the latest Nvidia graphics cards," MSI said.

Given that the latest Nvidia GPUs have been on the market for quite some time, we certainly hope so. However, the timing of MSI's announcement suggests that they are looking ahead to Nvidia's next generation GPUs, which are expected to be announced at the GeForce Special Event scheduled for September 1.

To that end, the folks at WCCFTech claim that MSI plans to bundle a 12-pin Micro-Fit 3.0 power adapter with the PSU, with photos to prove it. In case you missed it, Nvidia has recently

MSI confirmed.

MSI's three PSU models consist of the A650GF (650W), A750GF (750W), and A850GF (850W); all three have either three 8-pin connectors for the GPU and two 8-pin connectors for the CPU, or four 8-pin connectors for the GPU and one 8 pin connectors to the CPU, or four 8-pin connectors to the GPU and one 8-pin connector to the CPU.

From what I hear, they want to invest in at least an 850W model for one of their next generation graphics cards.

On paper, these look like high-end units from a reputable PSU manufacturer: all three are 80 Plus Gold certified, use 105°C-rated Japanese capacitors (in the old days, shoddy capacitors were the cause of failure in various PC electronics), and messy is included, flat cables are included to reduce the number of cables, and there is a generous 10-year warranty.

MSI has yet to reveal pricing, and the "Buy Now" button on each model's product page kicks out a 404 error (as do many other links).
