Nvidia is bringing 4K 60fps AI upscaling to GeForce Now on Shield TV.

Nvidia's Shield TV devices received an update today, enabling UHD 4K upscaling across the board and the ability to stream content at 60fps on the Shield TV Pro. Nvidia also announced details of more updates coming in the next few weeks. updates detailed in the coming weeks, which will allow users to upscale their favorite games to 4K 60fps with the GeForce Now streaming service.

In a blog post on Nvidia's website, the company outlines the specific improvements that will be introduced in this latest update.

Most notably, Shield's own AI upscaling improvements can automatically scale up low-resolution media currently playing on Shield TV to a shiny 4K on the big screen. Previously limited to 720p and 1080p, the 4K upscaling feature is now available from 360p to 1440p.

There is other good news for gamers in this update: Nvidia's game streaming service, GeForce Now, will soon support 4K 60fps upscaling on Shield devices, and Nvidia Games app library to enable a big screen experience.

Nvidia is also making some improvements to IR and CEC volume control support (volume control via HDMI devices using a single remote control) to make the Shield remote control an additional part of the home cinema experience.

Finally, Shield's previous models added an option to match the frame rate of the content being displayed and native SMBv3 support for remote access to files from a PC without using PLEX.
