RTX 3080 and 3090 Specs Leaked: 24GB Monster is Right Around the Corner

Here it is: the Nvidia RTX 3090. At least one variant of the new GPUs from hardware company Gainward seems to have accidentally posted the RTX 3090 and 3080 product pages a bit early.

The day before Nvidia's Ampere reveal event, where Nvidia is expected to officially unveil the RTX 3090 and 3080 graphics cards, Gainward posted (and then removed) images and specs for versions of each card, and the specs matched earlier leaked information. The 3090 is a 24GB monster, while the 3080 has 10GB of GDDR6X.

As discovered by our colleagues at Videocardz and Tom's Hardware, Gainward's product page lists four configurations of the 3090 and 3080, two of which are "golden sample" (aka factory overclocked) specifications The full specifications can be found at the Videocardz link.

Here are the main specs for the base model:

RTX 3090 Phoenix

RTX 3080 Phoenix

The biggest difference between the two is the significant jump in memory. For comparison, the RTX 2080 launched in 2018 with 8GB of GDDR6, while the RTX 2080 Ti launched at the same time with 11GB of GDDR6.

The amount of VRAM a graphics card carries is especially important for games at 4K, where large framebuffers are particularly memory intensive. Today, demanding games may use 8GB or more; the RTX 3080 may not have much headroom at native 4K, but the RTX 3090 has tons. As long as it can be paired with a high-end CPU, it seems to be the card Microsoft Flight Simulator needs.

Since there is no mention of a 3080 Ti at this time of launch, it is possible that a card somewhere between the 3080 and 3090, perhaps a 3080 Ti or Super model with 16GB of memory, will appear in the future We expect Nvidia to announce a 3070, but that model not leaked on Gainward's site. No prices were listed on either product page, but given the specs, expect a big dollar bill tomorrow.

Another interesting tidbit of information: according to Gainward's spec sheet, both the 3090 and 3080 models will require two 8-pin power connectors and will not use Nvidia's new 12-pin connector.

When asked to comment on the GPU page, Nvidia responded, "We do not comment on rumors or unannounced products."
