Vranvelle Closes to Celebrate 10th Anniversary

Today, Dutch indie developer Vlambeer celebrates its 10th anniversary: games such as "Super Crate Box," "Serious Sam: The Random Encounter," "Luftrausers," and "Nuclear Throne". Vlambeer also celebrated the 10th anniversary of the founding of Vlambeer. It also marks the end of Vlambeer, and the studio announced its closure on Twitter.

Studio members Rami Ismail and Jan Willem Nyman said the closure is "not a sad day for us, but a happy ending to a whirlwind decade filled with screen shaking." They also confirmed that their current project, Ultrabugs, will still go on, and announced that they will be releasing "FFFLOOD," a "prototype that wasn't finished for 10 years," as well as a "Vlambeer and Friends" sale on Steam to celebrate their 10th anniversary. [Vlambeer co-founder Rami Ismail told Kotaku:]" Vlambeer has done incredible work with incredible people over the past 10 years and we are very proud of that." "In working together, we have grown incredibly from overconfident 20 year old punks to 30 year olds who are more aware of their responsibilities and capabilities."

"I agree that it didn't necessarily feel planned, but still very natural and probably a long time in the making," says co-founder Jan Willem.

"The two of us were always at our best when we made big jumps together.

Sad or not (I think at least a little), it's an unusual way to end a successful indie venture, and Nijman makes it clear that Vlambia was never run as a traditional studio. From the very beginning," he says, "we believed that we shouldn't be sharing overlapping responsibilities. And although Vlambeer is over, both Nijman and Ismail said they intend to continue working in the indie development scene.
