Super Girl Gamer Pro, a competitive esports series launched in 2017 to support and celebrate women in gaming, will conclude its 2020 season with an online championship weekend in October. In this final showdown, top players from Hearthstone, CS:GO, and League of Legends will take home a total of $30,000 in prize money.
The October finals conclude a nine-week online qualifier series that began in July. The final round of qualifiers will take place this weekend, September 4-6, with the top four Counter-Strike teams, top four League of Legends teams, and top eight Hearthstone teams, according to a cumulative points system, advancing to the finals.
"The mission of Super Girl Gamer Pro is to create a safe environment that encourages and empowers women to participate in competitive gaming and to promote a future where women and men have equal opportunities in esports and the gaming industry as a whole," said SGGP esports Director Amanda Ball said." The amount of positive feedback we have received over the past four years proves the need for this platform as more and more women join the mission." [Kim "Geguri" Seyoung, who signed with the Overwatch League's highly regarded Shanghai Dragons in early 2018, is the only female player in the league, and her situation is not much better in the amateur ranks. Still, SGGP officials said the situation has improved in the four years the league has been in operation. [There are more "female" tournaments, especially in CS:GO, League of Legends, and Call of Duty's Warzone. We hope that these tournaments will be a stepping stone to bringing talented players to the world.
