Apex Legends Armor Nerf Reverted

As part of Season 6 of Apex Legends, armor features were changed. All armor is now Evo armor, and its defense has been lowered by 25 hit points. This resulted in a reduction in time to kill, which was controversial among players, at least by battle royale standards, given that relatively long firefights are part of Apex's appeal. Currently, armor values are being restored, but the all-Evo changes remain in effect.

As design director Jason McCord explains, internal playtesting had previously indicated that it was too easy to max out armor and that doing so would reduce the value of positioning and ambush. Even if someone did manage to corner them, the better players had too many hit points to compete. But we are a small group compared to the millions of people who play Apex Legends every day. Our teams have varying skill levels, and major balance changes will really only be vetted after we get your feedback."

The full patch notes include a variety of other changes, including the removal of an "inappropriate Caustic voice line" Caustic had called the Korean character Crypto a "rat." While this may seem like a normal insult to you and me, it has a history of being used as a racial slur against Asians, and Respawn writer Tom Casiello defended the removal of the line in response to what he described as a watered-down version of it, writing, "I can't think of a better insult than rodents. Don't you trust us writers enough to think we can't come up with a better insult? He's a dung beetle, a maggot, a cockroach, or a ...... He will call a dozen other things that are not slanderous."
