Karaoke Live Stream Game "Twitch Sings" Reaches Final Act

Twitch Sings Sings Its Last: Twitch announced today that it will close its live streaming karaoke platform, developed in conjunction with Rock Band studio Harmoix, by the end of the year.

"Looking to the future, we have decided to invest in broader tools and services to support and grow the entire music community on Twitch," the company said in announcing the closure. This has led us to make the difficult decision to close Twitch Sings on January 1, 2021." This community has inspired us with their talent and passion." We are grateful for all that you have given to Twitch Sings over the years."

Twitch has a general music category with 3.6 million followers, of which Twitch Sings is a small part, with only 161,000 followers. Friday afternoon may not be karaoke time, but it's not exactly a booming time: the game's current audience is roughly 1,800, second only to Beat Saber in the rhythm and music game category, but osu! Twitch Sings' top stream has an audience of currently stands at 157 viewers.

Finally, Twitch plans to release a backlog of over 400 new songs, but due to "contractual obligations" will begin releasing videos and clips on December 1; everything, including VOD, past broadcasts, clips, and highlights will disappear on January 1, 2021. For more information on the closure, see the Twitch Sings FAQ.
