Western Digital 1TB NVMe SSD now only $94

NVMe drives are among the best SSDs you can buy, offering read and write speeds that are several times faster than the maximum you can get with a traditional SATA drive (about 650 MB/sec.) Western Digital's 1TB SN550 drive is about 36 It is on sale for $94.49, a savings of $0.10 per GB, and is worth about $0.10 per GB.

This 1TB version of the Western Digital SN550 is an NVMe SSD, so it requires at least one M.2 slot and a PC with NVMe support in the BIOS. It has a maximum sequential read speed of 2,400 MB/sec and a maximum sequential write speed of 1,950 MB/sec. This is not as fast as some premium NVMe drives like the WD Black SN750 or the Samsung 970 EVO Plus, but it is still significantly faster than any SATA SSD (and faster than a spinning hard disk). Unless you regularly perform heavy file operations, you probably won't be able to tell the difference between the SN550 and more expensive drives.

We have not tried this particular model ourselves, but our friends at Tom's Hardware give it 4/5 stars in their review, praising its competitive price and 5-year warranty. The site notes that the small SLC cache can slow down file operations for long periods of time and that the blue color may not be to everyone's taste, but otherwise it's a solid drive; the SN550 also gets a 4/5 rating from PC Mag.
