A little more than a month after its release date, the nostalgic space station sim "Spacebase Startopia" has been delayed and will not appear on October 23.

This may be the result of beta feedback. The closed beta began in July for those who pre-ordered the game; Kalypso Media and Realmforge Studios have not mentioned specifics, but it needs to be refined and will not appear until next spring.

"The new release date is to allow time for development to further refine the game. Additionally, this postponement means that we can launch the game from day one in more regions and on more platforms."

I liked the demo I saw at Gamescom last year and was surprised at how faithful it was to the original Startopia, to which Kalypso does not actually own the rights.

However, given the paucity of space station sims and my love for "Startopia," it's OK that "Spacebase Startopia" doesn't mess with the formula too much. I think. Its been a little while since I played it for inspiration. Next year, I think we'll see how good it is.
