Rainbow Six to launch first World Cup tournament in summer 2021

Along with the announcement of the Prince of Persia remake and Riders Republic at yesterday's Ubisoft Forward, Ubisoft also announced the Rainbow Six World Cup, which will debut next year. This new competition will take place in 45 countries and will begin with a qualifying stage in the first half of 2021. The finals will then take place in the summer, with the remaining 20 teams competing for the World Cup trophy.

Ubisoft has also successfully secured international basketball star Tony Parker as an ambassador for the upcoming tournament. In an interview posted on Ubisoft's website, Parker explains why he was eager to participate in this new esports event:

"I am excited to meet the players and coaches and share my experience. For me it was a great opportunity to play for my country and learn how to play with different players and different coaches.

Starting next week, national committees will be formed for each of the participating regions. These coaches will then be in charge of selecting the players who will represent their teams on the world stage.

Ubisoft has already mentioned that 14 countries will receive a direct invitation to the final stage, while the remaining 31 countries will have to compete in the preliminary round to qualify. This would be a major step up in the "Rainbow Six" esports scene and would be the first time fans could guarantee a new national team.
