Wal-Mart Sells Gateway PCs, Not 1999

To borrow an opening from The Outer Limits, there's nothing wrong with your display. Yes, there is indeed a new Gateway PC on the market, wrapped in the same old (20 years ago) cow-spotted packaging. And it's only available at Walmart.

Some of you reading this may not remember Gateway. Gateway was created in 1985, a few years before "The Simpsons," and had a large presence in the PC market during the 1990s and early 2000s. Then came hard times, and in 2007 Acer acquired Gateway for $710 million.

While the Gateway brand never completely disappeared, its presence certainly diminished, and one would imagine that it was largely forgotten by many. Be that as it may, Acer is looking to capitalize on the brand with a new lineup of notebooks, 2-in-1 systems, and tablets. [Jade Zhu, Acer's head of global strategic alliances, said, "The Gateway PC brand and its famous cow-print box have been a favorite in the United States since 1985. Acer is thrilled that Walmart will be the exclusive provider of Gateway-branded laptops and tablets. We are pleased that our customers in the U.S. and Puerto Rico will have the opportunity to once again enjoy the beloved Gateway brand through a world-class retailer."

He stated.

According to the press release, the new Gateway PCs will be priced between $200 and $1,200. However, Wal-Mart appears to be selling some high-end models for slightly less than MSRP. For example, the top SKU (and also the most attractive SKU) is a $999 laptop configuration with an Intel Core i5 10300H Comet Lake processor, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB SSD. It also has a 15.6" display with a resolution of 1920x1080 and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

RAM and storage allocations are a bit anemic, but not bad for $1,000. This is one of two performance-oriented Creator Series laptops. The other is another 15.6-inch configuration, but with an AMD Ryzen 5 4600H processor and GeForce GTX 1650 GPU (other specs are the same). MSRP is $900, but it sells for $799.

For what it's worth, the few user reviews on both models are favorable, but who knows if they are warranted. Both models look good for the price, but with RAM and SSD prices continuing to drop, I'd be interested in upgrading myself.

Gateway's other models consist of a 14.1" ultra-slim model, a 15.6" ultra-slim laptop, an 11.6" 2-in-1 system, and a pair of Android tablets ($70 and $80 for 8" and 10.1" respectively) The system consists of.

You can see the collection now at Walmart.
