A Monster's Expedition is cute and quite entertaining, but it is the simple pleasures of puzzles and explorable worlds that make this game good. It's rare to call a brain-challenging game actually relaxing, but this is one of them. If a puzzle is too hard for you, just go solve it somewhere else in the open world. Also, most of them are simple enough that anyone can play them and just push things around.

When PC Gamer introduced A Monster's Expedition earlier this year, reporter Rachel Watts described it as "a lighthearted approach when it comes to puzzles." Here's how she described the gameplay: "Moving from island to island means solving puzzles that push blocks. To jump from island to island means solving a block-pushing puzzle. Each island has several trees, which can be pushed to make a log to connect two islands. If you push the log horizontally, it will keep rolling until it hits something. If you push the log vertically, you can flip tiles one at a time. In this petite puzzle, move the log in the correct direction and give it one last push to make it roll to the correct position."
