This year's virtual Game Devs of Color Expo worth checking out even if you're not a developer

If there is one good thing about the year 2020, it is that a wide variety of virtual events have made it easier to attend conferences and shows that I otherwise would not have had the opportunity to attend. Expo" on September 19-20 is one such event. Diversity in game development was brought back into the spotlight this past June with the launch of new protests by Black Lives Matter.

The Game Devs of Color Expo provides a forum for POC involved in game development to present their work and talk about a variety of topics related to development. These events are a great way to not only learn more about developers and games you may not have heard of, but to learn more about game development in general.

Additionally, Steam will be running another demo event for the expo called Gradient Convergence. Similar to the ongoing PAX Online x EGX Digital showcase, Gradient Convergence will allow attendees to play demos of various games and watch live footage. Demos will include "Lucifer Within Us," "She Dreams Elsewhere," "Skate Story," and more. In addition to video games, the Game Devs of Color Expo will also showcase a number of tabletop games with interesting names, including Winsults, Inequality-opoly, and a graphic design education game called Design Eye.

Tickets for both days of the event are $10 on Eventbrite, or even $5 for those who cannot afford the regular price. For more information on the event, visit the official website or the GDoC Twitter feed.
