The deep space dogfight sim "Star Wars: Squadrons" is not exclusive to the Epic Games Store, because it is also available on Steam and Origin. But that doesn't mean Epic has no influence at all in convincing people that their store is the right store.
You get the idea.
The Fortnite glider appears on top of the New Republic recruits and Imperial Ace cosmetic items that are offered as pre-order perks at all stores. While this will not mean much to Starfighter pilots who do not play Fortnite, there are a great many who do play Fortnite, and the exclusive glider is bound to have great appeal.
EA also released a new "Star Wars: Squadrons" cinematic today, introducing Titan Leader, the head of the game's Imperial squadron; how a TIE fighter can outrun an X-wing in the atmosphere, when the X-wing pilot really be able to hunt down a single TIE aircraft? Is the "imp" intended as some sort of devastating personal insult? It's a bit on the nose to cram in a trench run or depict a big rooster tail as it blasts over the ocean. All that is missing is a disembodied voice saying "Use the Force," but I am not aware of any Imperial pilot ever receiving such a cosmic pep talk from a dead Sith Lord.
Despite this, it is interesting that the trailer focuses on the Imperial Guard as the "hero" faction. The actual dogfights look promising, but the story is where "playing as a space fascist" might get interesting.
Star Wars: Squadrons will be released on October 2.
