Logitech Provides 25,600 DPI Software Update for Multiple Gaming Mice

If you purchased a Logitech G903 Lightspeed or G502 Hero wireless mouse, a software update is available to increase the sensitivity to 25,600 DPI. The same is true for a half-dozen other models with Logitech's Hero sensor.

Previously, the upper limit for Logitech's excellent Hero sensor was 16,000 DPI. With this update, the upper limit has been raised considerably. Normally, if you want a more sensitive mouse, you need to get a new mouse with an upgraded sensor. Not so with the following models:

While a free upgrade is always nice, this is really a pat on the back and brings the Hero sensor to its knees in front of the competition; even Logitech admits that turning the dial from 16,000 to 25,600 has limited benefit to gaming admittedly limited (though still worth noting).

"While submicron is not practical for most players, it reflects the performance potential of the Hero architecture and sensors," Logitech says.

Think of it as a nifty overclock, if you will (and without liquid nitrogen). For reference, one micron is one millionth of a meter, or 0.000001 meters. According to Logitech, the Hero sensor can now track movement at true submicron levels.

"Without compromising accuracy, this new sensor uses no smoothing and has no spurious motion or parasitic counting, making it one of the most accurate sensors on the market," Logitech adds.

How this will affect the battery life of Logitech's wireless models remains to be seen. However, Logitech suggests that it will not have much of an impact, as it utilizes a smart power management system that adjusts the frame rate based on mouse movement to minimize power consumption.

To get the upgrade, you need to run Logitech's G Hub utility; the G502 Proteus Core (my daily driver - drat!) Keep in mind that older model mice like the G502 Proteus Core use a different sensor and there is no change to the upper DPI level.
