Capcom has "no plans" to release "Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition" for PC.

A special edition of Devil May Cry 5 was announced at last night's PlayStation 5 event. However, both PS5 players and Xbox Series X owners will enjoy everything in the new edition, including the introduction of Legendary Dark Knight mode with its hordes of enemies, the addition of Turbo mode with a 20% increase in gameplay speed, and the promotion of Virgil to a playable character but PC players will have little luck. Playable Virgil will be available as a paid DLC character to players on any platform who do not have the Special Edition, but the new gameplay mode appears to be console exclusive, with reduced load times, ray tracing, 3D audio, 120 Other improvements include reduced load times, ray tracing, 3D audio, and a new High Framerate mode that allows the game to run at FPS.

In a statement released to Eurogamer, a Capcom spokesperson explained the reasoning behind this decision. Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition has been specifically developed and optimized to take advantage of the system architecture and exponential processing power of the PS5 and Xbox Series X: "At this time, we have no plans to release DMC5SE on PC. [especially since the new and improved technology that the next generation of consoles boast has nearly achieved the high-end performance that many gaming PCs are already capable of. Upon learning of the news, Reddit user RdJokr1993 wrote, "They obviously can't find a way to charge PC players extra for the next-gen upgrades that consoles are getting. 'Console-only ray tracing for games that exist on the PC. This is next-gen trolling," said Eurogamer commentator Unreal849.

Not surprisingly, some players have taken their frustration with this decision to the Devil May Cry 5 Steam page, making it clear that the decision not to release the special edition on PC is the cause of their frustration, while negative feedback has caused the game to Review Bombing. (Steam user Jray sums up the general feeling in their review: "Give us Turbo Mode and the legendary Dark Knight Mode, you cowards.") At the time of this writing, however, DMC5 still maintains a "very positive" rating on Steam. It is unclear whether this indicates the strength of the backlash or the effect of Steam's recent measures to prevent "off topic" reviews from influencing the feedback tally.
