Fortnite Mac version of "Save the World" will be unplayable next week

Bad news for the minority of people who play Fortnite's "Save the World" mode on their Macs, Epic Games confirmed in an announcement today that the cooperative tower defense mode will "no longer be playable on macOS" starting September 23. [The reason, of course, has to do with the ongoing dispute between Epic Games and Apple. "Apple is interfering with Epic's ability to sign games and patches for distribution on the Mac, which is preventing us from developing and offering Fortnite: Save the World for the Mac. Specifically, our upcoming v14.20 release will cause bugs and a very bad experience for v13.40 players."

Apple last week suspended plans to prevent users from logging into Epic Games titles with their Apple ID, but Epic Games is no longer able to issue updates to titles on Apple devices.Save the World is next week to be doomed, but Fortnite's battle royale component will live on as a time capsule of sorts.
