If you're lucky enough to get an RTX 3080, here are the new GPU drivers.

Yesterday's retail launch of the GeForce RTX 3080 was a bit of a whirlwind, but if you were able to snag one on preorder before the duffers took it all, you can prepare your PC for its arrival by installing Nvidia's new GPU drivers You can do that. And even if you weren't one of the lucky ones, you might want to install them.

First and foremost, Nvidia's 456.38 WHQL driver adds support for the RTX 3080, along with the RTX 3090, due out next week (September 24).

The driver also adds support for Fortnite's new RTX features, including real-time ray tracing, DLSS, and Reflex. Fortnite's creative mode also has custom RTX maps.

Additionally, the latest drivers add day-one optimizations for Halo 3: ODST and Mafia: The Definitive Edition.

There are also several new features for GeForce Experience. Specifically, the new driver adds a "One-Click Performance Tuning" option that "scans the GPU's performance characteristics and automatically overclocks it" to improve performance in games. It also performs periodic scans of the GPU. The only caveat is that it takes about 20-30 minutes initially, during which time Nvidia recommends leaving the system idle.

In-game performance monitoring is also new. This is essentially an overlay that displays a variety of statistics, including CPU and GPU utilization, frame rate counters, render latency, etc.

The driver also enables HDR broadcast capture with ShadowPlay on the GTX 900 series and above (the RTX 3090 can capture 8K 30fps with HDR enabled), adds AI-powered noise reduction and virtual background support, and extend the G-Sync Compatible program to five additional monitors (Acer XV253Q GW, Asus VG27AQ1A, LG 27GN800 and 27GN600, ViewSnoic XG270Q).

There is also an extensive list of issues that have been fixed. They include:

This is one of the more extensive driver releases from Nvidia in quite some time; it can be obtained from GeForce Experience or installed manually from Nvidia's driver download page.
