First official total conversion mod for Bethesda's "Doom" re-release.

Bethesda has released its first total conversion add-on for the re-released Doom and Doom II. Yesterday, the publisher announced that Rekkr, the Viking-themed overhaul first released in 2018, is now playable in an updated version of the classic shooter.

Rekkr is a four-episode, 25-level megawad that puts a Nordic twist on iD Software's classic, replacing DoomGuy with a shipwrecked Viking warrior, swapping hordes of demons for an invading army of undead soldiers, and introducing classic bow and arrow, axes, and a "blessing of the gods" called introduced a number of new weapons, including one called the "Blessing of the Gods.

This Norse take on the demonic invasion has already been around for several years, but it is only through a recent patch that it can now be incorporated into the Bethesda version of the game. An update earlier this month allowed the engine to load the DeHackEd patch, allowing for more advanced modifications such as different weapons and new enemy behavior, paving the way for Rekkr's arrival.

Rekkr is far from the first addition to Bethesda's re-release, with many add-ons officially available earlier this year. However, this is the first time that a total conversion, a form of wad that replaces most of the resources present in the original, has been used in an updated version of the game.Rekkr can be downloaded from the in-game add-ons menu of the re-release, and the original version of Doom If you are playing, you can also obtain it directly from the creators.
