Save $125 on an 8-core Comet Lake CPU and Z490 motherboard combination

Whether you are building a new PC or overhauling an existing one, a good place to start your parts search is with Newegg's combo sale. Depending on timing, it can be hit or miss. But right now, you can get an Intel Core i7 10700KA processor and a Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Elite AC motherboard for $489.98.

This is a savings of $125 over buying the same parts separately. Of course, you could use a cheaper Z490 motherboard and a regular Core i7 10700K processor, but still get this price: Newegg sells the Core i7 10700K for $382.98, and the least expensive Z490 motherboard is the ASRock Z 490 Phantom Gaming for $139.99. In this scenario, that's $522.97. Alternatively, the same Z490 Aorus Elite AC motherboard ($204.99) paired with a regular 10700K (the best CPU for gaming) would cost $587.97. Either way, this bundle is a great deal.

In case you missed it, the Core i7 10700KA is a strange promotional battle between Intel and Marvel, with a special Marvel Avengers-themed retail package. Essentially, it comes in a prettier box with a commemorative card. Otherwise, the specs are the same: an unlocked 8-core, 16-thread CPU running from 3.8 GHz to 5.1 GHz. In addition, with the purchase of either the 10700KA or the 10700K, customers will receive a code that can be redeemed for a Marvel Avengers game.

That's not what intrigues me. What's intriguing is the savings mentioned above. As for the motherboard, the Z490 Aorus Elite is a high-end model with a 12-phase digital VRM and 50A Smart Power Stage (translation: it's built to handle the rigors of overclocking). It also has many USB connectivity options, on-board dual-band Wi-Fi, and other amenities. We haven't seen the Aorus Elite, but the Z490 Aorus Master can be found in our Best Z490 Motherboards guide.
