Four years after its release, No Man's Sky's giant sandworm is finally here!

In 2013, gamers were mesmerized by the announcement trailer for No Man's Sky. Beautiful sci-fi landscapes, strange alien structures, otherworldly animals, and laser battles in outer space.

And then there were shots of several giant sandworm-type creatures lurking along a desert planet that looked as if they had jumped out of "Dune". This is just one of the many moments that thrilled us from the early trailers, not to mention the fact that those sandworms never made it into the game.

Well, here's some new information: holy cow. The Sandworms are finally here:

Above: the trailer for the No Man's Sky Origin Update.

That. It's big. It's a worm.

Hello Games founder Sean Murray said in 2018 that sandworms were cut from the game before launch because they were overpowered and "hated in the game." However, Hello Games seems to have changed its mind and found a way to make them fun.

Personally, I don't care if they're fun or not. Personally, I don't care what they do as long as it's fun. I just watch them! It's great.

And as you can see from the trailer above, it's not just giant sandworms that have been added in the new "Origins" update for No Man's Sky. We spoke with Sean Murray this week, and here's a rundown of what's new in the Origins update.
