Rocket League is now FREE! Get a $10 coupon!

Rocket League is free to play as of today and available in the Epic Games Store; even if you don't feel like playing Rocket League, you might want to add it to your library: if you add it by October 23 at 11 a.m. ET, you'll receive a $10 Epic Store coupon that can be used for other games you will receive a $10 Epic Store coupon that can be used for.

As Psyonix announced in July, the problem with this free-to-play update is that Rocket League is no longer available from Steam for new PC players and must be purchased from the Epic Store. Existing Steam players can continue to use the Steam version and will continue to receive updates. However, starting last week, the Steam version must be linked to an Epic account.

Along with the free-to-play update comes a new competitive season, which Psyonix calls Season 1. New competitive tournaments have also begun and a new Rocket Pass is available; if you are using the Steam version of Rocket League, you can use your Steam Wallet to purchase the credits needed to upgrade to the Premium Pass, or you can purchase them in the Item Shop. You can do this. (I know this because I lacked self-control and bought myself a Rocket Pass even though I don't really like the items in this piece.)

The full patch notes for today's update can be found here. The update delivered last week also brought major changes, including some UI tweaks that will almost certainly disgust anyone who has been using the old menu for years (why is everything in italics now?).

If you already have "Rocket League" on Steam and have it linked to your Epic account, you can get a $10 Epic Store coupon by purchasing the Epic Store version. The coupon must be used by 2:59 a.m. ET on November 1 or it will expire. The coupon can only be used on purchases of $14.99 or more, so you must spend $5 to get the $10 discount, but that doesn't mean the Epic Store is not worth $5.
