Update: Microsoft has confirmed that Doom Eternal will be coming to Xbox Game Pass on October 1: the PC version will be available on Xbox Game Pass "in late 2020." And in case you forgot, Doom Eternal's first DLC, The Ancient Gods Part One, will be released on October 20.

Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media promises to be a game changer in many ways, and not just for Xbox Game Pass owners Xbox boss Phil Spencer is a man we've all been waiting for. He has already confirmed that Bethesda's "iconic franchises" will be added to Game Pass, including big new titles like Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6, which we've been waiting for, and Doom Eternal seems to be headed there.

The Xbox Game Pass Twitter account tweeted a fake internal memo from "Melissa McGamepass."

"Listen up everyone! This has definitely been the most eventful few months of the year, with announcements of EA Play and cloud gaming (beta), plus more new information coming in. Read on for more details.

"Be excited. What I'm about to tell you is going to drive us all crazy. Don't be surprised, [REDACTED] will be in service soon! Of course, this needs to be kept a secret. We need to resist the temptation to drop hints for our followers."

The sharp-eyed reader immediately noticed that the first letter of each sentence, when pieced together, spells "Look below." But below what? Neither the follow-up tweets nor the press release did anything to clarify what the very obvious tease was.

But then someone (probably a lot of someone) hit on the idea of taking a closer look at the image itself rather than the message, played with the colors a bit, and this appeared:

This is almost certainly a god with a gun from Id Software's "Doom" reboot It refers to the "Doom Slayer" kill, and there's a good chance that the 2016 reboot will also be included as additional content in the game pass - Microsoft owns both of these. Sooner or later, I guess.

One thing I wonder is whether Doom Eternal's appearance on the Xbox Game Pass means that it will also appear on the PC version of the Xbox Game Pass. We don't know why Microsoft would leave that out, but we will keep an eye on it and let you know as soon as it is confirmed.
