PC version of "Spelunky 2" will not feature online multiplayer at launch.

Spelunky 2 launched on PlayStation 4 on September 15, but PC players are still waiting: our platform won't receive it until next September 29. This is because "the start on the PS4 version was a bit unstable" and the developer wants to fix it before the release.

"Regarding the release date, we listened to the feedback from the community and decided to prioritize an early release so that Steam players can enjoy the game as soon as possible," the developer Mossmouth explains on Steam.

"Unfortunately, this means that we will not be able to launch with online multiplayer, and to avoid any misunderstanding, we are tentatively removing the 'online co-op' tag from the store. This is disappointing for players who have been looking forward to jumping into online co-op since day one. Until recently, we had hoped that we would be able to launch as planned.

The good news, aside from online co-op working properly, is that cross-play with PS4 will be implemented when the multiplayer component goes live. And since Mossmouth estimates that it will take "a few weeks at most" to be ready, we shouldn't have to wait too long.

"Online multiplayer can be tricky, but it's a lot of fun when it's working the way it's supposed to, so we're committed to getting it right," the studio said. Until then, enjoy Adventure and Arena modes in single-player or local multiplayer."
