In a turnaround from the disappointing delay of the game, the upcoming Yakuza will now be released a few days earlier than planned: and thanks to the next-generation Xbox console.
Yakuza: originally scheduled to launch on November 13, Microsoft announced earlier this month that the Xbox Series X and S consoles would launch on November 10. As a result, Sega has moved up the release date of "Yakuza" a few days for all platforms. (The PlayStation 5 version is scheduled for release on March 2, 2021, though.)
The new Yakuza promises to be quite different from previous entries in the series, with turn-based combat and RPG-style party members to back you up in battle. The game takes place in Yokohama, not Tokyo, and features a new main character, Kasuga Ichiban. He spends 18 years in prison defending a murderer, and when he is finally released, the person he defended is about to kill him. Not exactly a good deed, is it?
It sounds like the setup for a classic crime story, but apparently a large part of the game involves rebuilding a failing candy shop and going out drinking with your buddies. I guess that's what being a yakuza is all about.
Reports that a new yakuza game would be announced on Sunday turned out to be incorrect. As reported by Gamutsu, the Tokyo Game Show host who gave this information said the next day that he had misunderstood what Sega was actually planning, but on top of that, a new live-action Yakuza movie is in the works.
