Microsoft has released a new build to Windows Insiders. This build includes new features to monitor storage more closely, especially NVMe SSDs. Build 20226, which was distributed to testers yesterday (September 30), includes "storage health monitoring to protect user data."

Recovering data from a failed drive can be frustrating and certainly expensive if that data is really important to you. It goes without saying that regular backups are important here (and rightly so), but forewarning that a failure is imminent can also help avert disaster.

For us gamers, this may not seem so necessary, as cloud saving has become quite common, but even cloud saving can go wrong. In that case, a warning that there is something wrong with the drive would give you enough time to save your most important files.

Such monitoring is often provided by the drive manufacturer, but the health of the drive should be checked regularly for what Microsoft calls "hardware anomalies," especially if Windows monitors the drive for what Windows calls SSD and does not always do well with SSDs, is a good idea.

If a warning appears, Microsoft suggests that "it is strongly recommended that you back up your data immediately." Good advice.

The new 20226 build includes updates to Your Phone settings (does anyone use this?) ), numerous changes and improvements, and a healthy dose of fixes.
