A comprehensive automatic overclocking tool for AMD Ryzen processors with Zen 2 architecture is now available. The long-awaited ClockTuner for Ryzen (CTR) application helps you find the best of the many CCXs (complex of processing cores) to achieve the best performance.

The AMD Ryzen 3000 processor is not a great overclocker. But that's not entirely true, at least not if you're comfortable with paying attention to the finer details in your PC's quest for absolute power. the Zen 2 processors' CCXs each have up to four cores, giving you an even higher performance You'll have the chance for even higher performance.

Developed by Yuri Bubliy, creator of the popular "DRAM Calculator" tool for Ryzen, CTR helps you find the hidden performance lurking beneath the surface. simply load the CTR software and it will evaluate all the core complexes on the chip. How this is determined depends on a variety of factors and variables, but basically CTR helps find the cores that operate at the highest frequency with the least power.

Once the software knows the lay of the land and the user has performed the diagnostic steps, they can press the start button and let the CTR work its magic, adjusting frequency and voltage to maintain optimal performance and energy efficiency. Once the optimal settings are found, click Create and Save Profile and check the results with the built-in benchmark.

There is still an element of the so-called silicon lottery in this process. However, CTRs can easily find such information and reap the benefits, whatever they may be.

And the reason for the need for such a tool goes to the heart of the Zen 2 architecture. By using multiple chiplets, AMD can provide processing cores of the appropriate breadth at a reasonable cost. Each CCX can have up to four cores in the Zen 2 architecture, and the number of CCXs varies from chip to chip; the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X, for example, has more core clusters than the six-core Ryzen 5 3600.

What CTR can do is refine the clock speed at the CCX level. According to figures provided by the developer, CTR has helped improve performance by up to 5 percent in Cinebench R20 scoring with the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X.

Since Zen 3 is certain to follow Zen 2's lead, we can expect to see similar uses for such tools in the next generation of Ryzen processors.
