Cooler Master's new MM720 gaming mouse is very light at 49g

The blueprint for an ultralight gaming mouse is in place, and Cooler Master has done just that with the new MM720, weighing in at just 49 grams.

This is incredibly light for a gaming mouse. Our search for comparisons led us to manufacturers and models we had never heard of before, like the G-Wolves Hati S Stardust (49 grams, $85) and the FinalMouse Ultralight 2 Cape Town (47 grams, $120). And not surprisingly, both are perforated rollers (gliders) like the MM720. They are also expensive.

Cooler Master's MM720 is available for pre-order on Amazon for $50 and comes in matte black and glossy white (glossy black and matte white will also be available). That means about $1 per gram (compare as you wish).

If the overall shape looks familiar, that's because Cooler Master is reusing the Xornet and Spawn mouse designs. Unlike these rodents, however, the MM720 has a lighter honeycomb shell for more nimble operation. Also, like the other two mice, the MM720 is ergonomically designed for right-handed players.

Cooler Master also "significantly upgraded the internals," adding optical switches and a "pro-grade" 16,000 DPI sensor (PixArt PMW3389). The company also coated the MM720's interior with dust- and water-resistant materials and says it is IP58 rated and certified. The first 30,000 mice to leave the factory will come with Mice Grip tape inside the box. Other features include dual-zone RGB lighting, fixed UltraWave cable (1.8 meters), and PTFE feet.

The MM720 will be available in a few weeks, on October 27.
