Call of Duty: Warzone" latest sniper rifle is too powerful death laser

If you've played "Call of Duty: Warzone Season 6" in the past few days, you've seen firsthand how terrifying the SP-R 208 is. This new sniper rifle appears to be based on the classic R700 sniper from "Call of Duty 4," but it has already proven to be the best weapon in its class. Combining high damage with incredible mobility, rate of fire, and bullet velocity, the SP-R is a quick scoper's dream. With essentially no drawbacks, Infinity Ward should take this weapon down a notch.

The SP-R feels amazingly good from level 1 without attachments. A single chest shot can completely destroy armor, and with the addition of a 26" barrel and a .337 Lapua magazine, this rifle can sustain high damage at long enough range to headshot with a single shot. Other sniper rifles can do that, but they are slower moving and require a heavy target lead; the SP-R's default bullet velocity is so fast that it feels like a hit scan even at 40-50 meters away.

This gun is so versatile and fun that it feels natural to pair it with an SMG or assault rifle in a warzone loadout. As I see this gun popping out of players' corpses, I can say that so far the community agrees.

In regular multiplayer, the SP-R's strengths are even more pronounced. Like the lever-action MK2 carbine, the SP-R is always able to kill more than one chest with a single shot. Whereas the carbine's low bullet velocity means that the target must be guided on the spot, the SP-R is a powerful laser pointer. All of the matches I played over the past two days were sharpshooters shooting at each other with one tap (seriously, I can hear them yelling at each other over the microphone).

With such deadly rifles in the wild, much of the game play went like this:

Yes, even by Call of Duty's loose balance standards, the SP-R probably deserves a nerf. There is no way that a marksman rifle with virtually no disadvantages should outperform a huge .50 caliber rifle at long range. Ironically, Infinity Ward may have gone a bit overboard with the SP-R in order to get people to buy the expensive $20 Battle Pass that instantly unlocks this weapon. On the other hand, this rifle is a perfect throwback to a bygone era of CoD, especially when sniper rifles that could use quick scopes were dominant at all ranges.

If you are, you were excited to hear that the SP-R is reminiscent of the sniper in Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War. Oh dear.
