Acer's amazing Predator X34 gaming monitor speeds up significantly

An unannounced version of Acer's large gaming monitor, the Predator X34, has appeared on Chinese retail sites. Its main thing is a 200 MHz refresh rate, almost double that of the current model. It also has an incredibly fast response time of 0.5 ms.

Called the Predator X34 S (just as Apple offers an "S" upgrade for the same iPhone series), this upcoming display is available on Taobao (via TFTCentral) for ¥9,999 (about $1,472 in US currency). However, since prices often vary by region, it is unknown how much this monitor will sell for in the U.S. or elsewhere.

The first-generation Predator X34 is one of the best curved gaming monitors available, with an IPS screen, 3440x1440 resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, and 4 ms response time.

Acer's Predator X34 S also has the same resolution and the same size IPS panel. Supposedly, it is an LG Nano IPS overclocked from 144Hz (native refresh rate) to 200Hz, but we cannot say for sure. Like its predecessor, the S version supports Nvidia's G-Sync technology.

As for response time, it is listed at 1 ms, with the ability to achieve 0.5 ms. This is especially true if, as TFTCentral speculates, it is a gray-to-gray (GtG) measurement.

Although not yet listed on the VESA website, it is listed as a DisplayHDR 400 certified display, with a standard brightness of 400 nits and a peak brightness of 550 nits. Ideally, LCD monitors should be able to achieve 1,000 nits for HDR content, so we will need to see actual performance when they are released. In any case, this is another upgrade over the regular Predator X34.

Connectivity options include DisplayPort, HDMI, USB Type-C (85W power supply), USB 3.0, and 3.5mm audio output.

If the listing is accurate, this monitor is expected to arrive in December.
