"Assassin's Creed Origins" and "Assassin's Creed Odyssey" have added a "Discovery Tour" mode as a free post-launch update. This is educational, but never boring, and a far cry from the usual "edutainment" nonsense.

Ubisoft has yet to say whether its upcoming "Assassin's Creed Valhalla" will have its own Discovery Tour, but a five-part podcast series called "Echoes of Valhalla" available on Spotify attention to its educational potential. It is a dramatized documentary, with each 15-minute episode featuring music, sound effects, slightly over-the-top voice acting, and narration to illustrate highlights of actual Viking history.
